Hello! As you can see I am back and The Good Yarn is changing and widening its focus. I’d be delighted to take you along with me.
I’m reinventing this Substack newsletter as somewhere not only to talk about stash monsters but also as a place to talk about actually knitting the good yarn, to tell stories about knitting and yarn and to explore our attitudes to really using our beautiful stashes
.
It’s not just about yarn!
I am also going to start digging into the murky depths of my pattern collection and encouraging you to do the same, maybe even our books and those 100s of PDFs that lurk on Kindles, in the cloud, maybe even on old hard drives! 😬
I want us to really think about the patterns we might realistically want to make, the ones we love to pore over but will never make, the ones we made and know we won’t ever make again, and the ones we can happily let go and never look at again.
And Then There Are Our Works In Progress
I’ve covered WIPs a little before but now it’s time to explore some techniques for either making progress or radical letting go.
OK I just scared myself... 😱 nothing too radical I promise!
Fantasy Knitting and The Yarn We’ve Learned To Love … from a Distance
I will definitely also write about some fantasy knitting projects and yarns that I lust after but will never use. Except to chat about, because that’s half the fun!
When and How Often?
I know we are all busy people and I’m committed to writing at least one weekly post over on
. Posts there are usually created with the help of an AI assistant. Though I do rewrite, edit and tweak them myself. Here I intend to practice actually writing by myself! Photos here will be of works in progress, lovely yarns and other good things. They won’t be AI generated unless I specifically mention that they have been.
My idea for these missives is that once a fortnight is likely to be :
Often enough for you to read my ramblings
A realistic schedule for me to stick with in the longer term.
With that in mind I will aim to send you two posts a month.
If you want more of my nonsense then do follow my Substack Notes where I witter and share about a wider range of topics.
If this sounds like something that might interest you then please come along for the ride.
If you are still interested in this newsletter please Like this post or leave a comment.
If not then, thank you and farewell with no hard feelings.
Yay! 🧶❤️
Had noticed you hadn't been around; great to see you're back!
