There is a KD pattern I have bookmarked for when I have a spare thousand hours to knit an oversized tunic in an all over fair isle 5 color pattern made with fingering weight yarn. Yes I will certainly do that at some point! Yes I will... so I totally understand this post here!
What a wonderful read this is Linda. Weighing up dreams and reality. Visiting the islands of Scotland is something I dream of doing. I'm off to take a look at the book of patterns you mention.
Thanks Jodie. Davaar is such a tiny island away from the others but all the islands are magical. The book arrived a couple of days ago and is gorgeous!
Loved reading this! Hanging on every step of the way, to watch how you went from anxious to at peace with the thought of not actually needing or even wanting to make all the things on the book, once you picked through the reasons for wanting that. But I do relate to the feeling of seeing this type of landscape and wanting to transport yourself there, even if through making the patterns the photos show. Just clicked on the link you share at the end and... that's some beautiful landscape... Get's me longing for it too, and I never went to Scotland (though it's one of my "one-day-I-will" trips for sure).
I love the way you stop and reflect on the emotional questions behind the intense desire. There have been a few moments in my life where I've been inspired to the same (not about knitting, necessarily, but about eating out, buying clothes, etc.) and I'm always shocked to find that there's something much deeper at play, which will absolutely not be solved by the short-term fix I'm trying to get away with.
I can relate to wanting to buy all the knitting books but having to pull myself back and be honest about if I'm actually going to knit the stuff. They're still fun to look at.

I've just looked up Davaar up on the map and how special it must be! Enjoy absorbing yourself in the book with hot cuppa :)

Thanks Ana. Usually I’d do it in private in my Morning Pages but I thought people might relate by watching me go through the process.

Indeed they are! I love a good knitting book and can pore over them for hours.
